#33 – Beatrix Hoyt, Alexa Stirling, Virginia Van Wie

THREES ARE WILD: These three women are fitting for #33 as each of them won three consecutive U.S. Amateurs in a row and they all were victorious prior to the mid-1930’s:

These Women Had Three Consecutive U.S. Amateur Victories Each:

Beatrix Hoyt (1896, 1897, 1898) – A member of the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY, she was born in Westchester County, New York, the granddaughter of Salmon P. Chase, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury under President Lincoln and later, Chief Justice of the United States.

Alexa Stirling Fraser (1916, 1919, 1920; no championships 1917-18) – Was a close friend of Bobby Jones and grew up at Atlanta’s East Lake where she was instructed by legendary Stuart Maiden.  Also won the Canadian Women’s Amateur in 1920 and 1934.

Virginia Van Wie (1932, 1933, 1934) – Was also named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1934.  Was also a member of the very first U.S. Curtis Cup Team in 1932.
